My BJD Brainrot

THE DOLL BLOG NOBODY ASKED FOR
Welcome to the blog, a chaotic archive of doll ramblings, art struggles, collecting disasters, customization experiments, and whatever financial mistakes I've convinced myself are "self-care." I ramble about BJDs, review them, attempt to customize them, and occasionally have an emotional meltdown. Think of this blog as a chaotic diary made by someone who keeps buying dolls despite having no space, no restraint, and no intention of stopping. If you’re here for structure or stability, you took a wrong turn. Enjoy the chaos.
Note: Some of the blog posts are blank. I am slowly but surely fixing them. There are a lot, so it takes time.

Immortality of Soul 50 Class Body Unboxing...When the Box Is Bigger Than the Doll

After what can only be described as an unnecessarily complicated journey, the Immortality of Soul 50 class body finally arrived. While the full timeline and communication issues are documented elsewhere on this blog, this post focuses on the box opening itself, now that everything has been resolved and clarified.

This unboxing was originally meant to be quick. Reality, as usual, had other plans.

Opening the Box (At Last)

With the situation concluded, I was finally able to open the box without waiting for another email or clarification. The shipping box arrived intact, though its size was immediately noticeable.

The first thing worth mentioning is the sheer size of the box. For an MSD-scale body, this shipping box was dramatically larger than necessary, immediately raising questions about efficiency and packaging choices.

Once opened, the excess became even more obvious. The foam cutouts were oversized, and the body itself didn’t come close to filling them. This could have very easily been shipped in a smaller box without compromising safety.

Despite the excessive packaging, the body itself arrived safely and in good condition. The resin was intact, and there were no visible issues caused by shipping.

Size Reality Check

Picture
It became clear very quickly that this body was larger than expected. I had assumed it would match another MSD body I already own, but this 50-class body sits closer to a small SD in scale. That miscalculation is entirely on me for not double-checking measurements, though the 40% sale price certainly helped cloud my judgment.

Because of the size difference, some character plans had to be adjusted. Instead of being used for a twin character, this body will now represent a standard sibling. Not what I originally planned, but still workable.

Jointing and Mobility Notes

Picture
One detail worth highlighting is how natural the thigh joints look when the doll is posed in a knee-to-chest position. The transition between the thigh and torso appears smoother and less mechanical than on many other bodies I own, which gives the pose a more organic feel rather than a sharply segmented one.

The elbows are also notably well-designed. When bent, they look more natural and less angular compared to other dolls, avoiding the harsh square lines that often appear in similar poses.
Picture
Another difference worth noting is that this body was not wired and did not include silicone disks. This stood out to me, as the last several dolls I’ve unboxed did include one or both of those features. While this is neither inherently good nor bad, it is a noticeable design choice and something collectors may want to be aware of.

Personally, I’m not bothered by it. Silicone disks exist (I already have some, in fact), aluminum wire is easy to come by, and I am fully capable of performing minor doll upgrades if the situation calls for it. Having the energy to do it myself is another story. 💀

Final Thoughts

In the end, the unboxing itself was straightforward, even if the road leading up to it was not. While the packaging was excessive and the scale unexpected, the body arrived safely and is usable for future projects.

If you’d like to see the unboxing in motion, along with commentary and a closer look at the body, the full box opening video is available on my YouTube channel.
