My BJD Brainrot

THE DOLL BLOG NOBODY ASKED FOR
Welcome to the blog, a chaotic archive of doll ramblings, art struggles, collecting disasters, customization experiments, and whatever financial mistakes I've convinced myself are "self-care." I ramble about BJDs, review them, attempt to customize them, and occasionally have an emotional meltdown. Think of this blog as a chaotic diary made by someone who keeps buying dolls despite having no space, no restraint, and no intention of stopping. If you’re here for structure or stability, you took a wrong turn. Enjoy the chaos.
Note: Some of the blog posts are blank. I am slowly but surely fixing them. There are a lot, so it takes time.

Dream Valley Aeon Butterfly Jialan Unboxing The Blue-Gray Resin Disaster?

I got a package! And not just any package! This time it was the long-awaited Dream Valley Jialan, the Aeon Butterfly sculpt, in their brand new blue-gray resin. I bought him specifically to be the male counterpart to my ghost moth girl. Because apparently, the only thing I know how to do in life is buy dolls instead of groceries. Who needs stable finances when you can sniff resin fumes and call it a lifestyle?

The First Impression: Love at First Color

I’ll give Dream Valley credit where it’s due: this resin color is absolutely stunning. It has this smokey blue undertone that feels ghostly, moody, and perfect for anyone who thrives in a grayscale aesthetic. If storm clouds had a baby with a haunted painting, it would look like this resin.

The sculpt? Beautiful. The overall concept? Exactly what I wanted.

But then my excitement came to a screeching halt.

The Shoes: Why Do These Exist?

Let’s get the small complaint out of the way before I get into the big one.

The shoes… are ugly. I don’t say that lightly. They’re resin shoes shaped like flat footwear but with a fake heel slapped on the back, and that is one of my ultimate doll pet peeves.

Flat feet pretending to wear heels? Why? Who asked for these? Who designed these? Why are they here?

The Sanding Marks: So Many That I’m Emotionally Unwell

Here’s where the real disappointment hit.

This doll is covered — and I mean covered — in sanding marks. Deep ones. Light ones. Random directional ones. It’s like Dream Valley entrusted the finishing process to someone armed with sandpaper, caffeine jitters, and zero supervision.

I’ve owned darker resin dolls before. I know sanding marks happen.
But I have never seen them this intense on a brand-new doll straight out of the box.

Even worse?
My ghost moth girl in a dark color family did not have this issue.

Which leads me to believe something went wrong with this resin batch… or the finishing process (most likely)… or maybe the universe just wanted to humble me.

Why This Matters More Than Usual

This wasn’t a normal resin color. I paid extra for this one.
The whole point of ordering a special resin tone is to show it off — not bury it under three layers of body blushing just to hide the factory sanding damage.

And that’s the catch: the only way I know to fix this is to blush the entire body in a matching shade. But that completely defeats the purpose of ordering the new resin color in the first place.

If I had known the blue-gray resin would come out looking like this, I would have chosen normal skin and painted the doll myself.

I genuinely want to know if anyone else who bought Jialan in blue-gray experienced the same thing.
Is this a known issue? A batch problem? Or did my doll just get personal with a piece of sandpaper before being shipped?

You can see some marks on his legs and feet. I tried wiping at it, but the smooge/marks are still there.

Final Thoughts

Despite everything, I still like the doll. The sculpt is beautiful, the concept is solid, and the resin color (under all the marks) is gorgeous. But I won’t pretend I’m not disappointed. This is the kind of thing that feels preventable with just a little more care.

Will I keep him? Yes.
Will I silently judge him every time I see those sanding marks? Also yes.

Thanks for reading, and feel free to drop your experiences, tips, complaints, coping mechanisms, etc. in the comments. And if you enjoy doll-related chaos, existential dread, and unhinged unboxings, make sure to follow my blog for more.
