It kind of still is.

🆚 PVC or Resin?

In all honesty, it’s surprisingly difficult to tell the difference between resin and PVC bodies at a glance. PVC has come a long way, and visually, it holds its own.

That said, the biggest downside right now is availability.

There just aren’t many companies producing larger PVC bodies in 1/4 or 1/3 scale. Most stick to smaller sizes like 1/6 or 1/12 for blind box dolls, which leaves those of us in the bigger scale range digging through scraps.

1/3 PVC bodies are basically cryptids. 🦄 I’ve only managed to find three, and all of them come from UFDoll.

1/4 bodies are becoming more common, but options are still pretty limited. Here’s what I’ve found so far:

UFDoll – 1/3 and 1/4

1/3 male: 3 body types

1/3 female: 1 body type

1/4 male: 2 body types

1/4 female: 2 body types

Dalili (Dollsphere.com) – 2 different bodies (1/4 scale)

Nayomi (Dollsphere.com) – 2 different bodies (1/4 scale)

And that’s… about it. Not exactly a thriving ecosystem.

🌈 The second downside is color.

With resin BJDs, you can get just about any color your heart desires, especially from companies that offer custom casting like Resinsoul. Want purple? Easy. Black? Done. Deep, rich chocolate brown? Absolutely.

PVC? Not so much.

The color range is… safe. Very safe. Suspiciously safe. The colors range from white to slightly less white. UFDoll has a tan....

😤 My personal gripe

All of the PVC bodies are… normal.

No anthro dolls.
No grotesque sculpts.
No weird proportions.
No “what am I even looking at” energy.

And that’s a problem, because weird is exactly what I want.

Give me the unsettling. The uncanny. The slightly cursed.

Right now, PVC is playing it way too safe… and I need it to start making worse decisions.

🔮 What’s Next

I’ll probably test different heads on these and post that on my blog. The full official name of the series is absurdly long, so we’re just going to stick with that shortened version before my brain gives up.

This one is a limited Valentine release.

From what I can tell, there are either two or three versions of this figure. There is this blue one, but it's pink version, and I swear at one point I saw a pink version of the hidden figure floating around online. The problem is, I can’t find that image again anywhere, which means one of two things happened.

Either it exists and I’m bad at searching… Or I hallucinated a collectible figure while scrolling the internet at 3 AM. Both options are very possible.

There are also two other sets in this line called the Midnight Series and the Daytime Series that I would love to collect. I actually found complete sets on Xianyu.

Unfortunately, the sellers want about $600 for each set. Which means if I bought both, it would be $1200 for blind box figures. And I’m sorry… I may be a collector, but I am not that level of insane.

So there is a very real possibility I will never complete those sets, which is tragic, but my wallet has filed a formal complaint.

Valentine Versions. Some people call them action figures, some call them artist mannequins.

The reason I bought these is because I am trying to get back into art after not really drawing seriously for over a decade. I wanted a few different body types and proportions that I could use as reference while practicing anatomy.

Now obviously these are not realistic anatomy. They are very stylized and kind of comic-book proportioned. But they’re still useful for things like gesture drawing, posing, and general body positioning.

One thing I always find funny though is that with these male figures, the manufacturers often make their heads absolutely tiny. Like… sir. Where did your skull go? Did you lose it somewhere between the shoulders and the biceps?

Interestingly, I purchased these figures from Taobao instead of Xianyu.
The reason was simple: the price difference between used and new was almost nonexistent. Buying new also eliminated the risk of damaged joints, incomplete accessory sets, scams, and service fees from Xianyu agents.

One unexpected discovery during this haul was a box containing optional anatomy parts for one of the models.

Yes, manufacturers apparently decided that artists and collectors needed additional customization options.

It’s certainly… a design choice.

Comparing Some of My Other Art Model Figures

I actually own a few other poseable model figures that I’ve collected over the years. Unfortunately… some of them are not exactly great quality. In fact, I’m pretty sure a few of them are knock-offs of knock-offs.

The figures on the left (the deluxe set ones) are 100% legitimate, and you can absolutely tell the difference in quality. The plastic feels solid, the joints work well, and the proportions are intentionally manga-style, which makes them great for stylized pose reference.

The figures in the middle, however… I’m not so sure about. I think they might be legitimate, but I honestly can’t remember where I bought them. What I do remember is noticing that the proportions are a little questionable. For example, her hands are unbelievably tiny. Like… “what happened here?” tiny.

Then we get to the figma-style figures on the right, which are easily the worst of the bunch. Their proportions are slightly more realistic, but they practically fall apart the moment you pick them up. It’s deeper, more saturated, and honestly very pretty.

AND the resin was noticeably cleaner this time. There were very few sanding marks or leftover residue, which was a refreshing change compared to my Aeon Butterfly guy. See, Dream Valley? You can do it. 💜

That said, my background is also purple. Which means on camera, the resin sometimes looks gray. Not because it is gray, but because the universe hates me.

I’m filming on a Google Pixel Pro, which allegedly has one of the best cameras available. Allegedly. The shipping box arrived intact, though its size was immediately noticeable.

The first thing worth mentioning is the sheer size of the box. For an MSD-scale body, this shipping box was dramatically larger than necessary, immediately raising questions about efficiency and packaging choices.

Once opened, the excess became even more obvious. The foam cutouts were oversized, and the body itself didn’t come close to filling them. This could have very easily been shipped in a smaller box without compromising safety.

Despite the excessive packaging, the body itself arrived safely and in good condition. The resin was intact, and there were no visible issues caused by shipping.

Size Reality Check

It became clear very quickly that this body was larger than expected. I had assumed it would match another MSD body I already own, but this 50-class body sits closer to a small SD in scale. That miscalculation is entirely on me for not double-checking measurements, though the 40% sale price certainly helped cloud my judgment.

Because of the size difference, some character plans had to be adjusted. Instead of being used for a twin character, this body will now represent a standard sibling. Silicone disks exist (I already have some, in fact), aluminum wire is easy to come by, and I am fully capable of performing minor doll upgrades if the situation calls for it. Ringdoll responded by stating that the skirt was not broken. Which is a fascinating claim, considering one of the skirt petals is very clearly snapped off. I truly cannot believe Ringdoll would try to claim a broken part wasn’t broken. 🙄

As compensation, Alice’s Collections offered a pair of 9.90 eyes. Which is kind, but unfortunately, eyes do not reattach broken skirt petals. But thanks, Alice's Collections, for trying to make it right. 💖

Because I am who I am, I went straight to the source and contacted Ringdoll directly. I explained again that the skirt was broken and sent both photos and a video directly. They replied to let me know I had contacted the wrong department and that my message had been forwarded to the correct one.

After that, I received no reply.

However, Alice’s Collections later followed up to let me know that Ringdoll contacted them and agreed to send a replacement part. So it appears Ringdoll chose to respond to the dealer instead of me, which is perfectly fine, since that’s who I ordered from in the first place.

Alice’s Collections confirmed they will ship the replacement as soon as they receive it.

So, in conclusion:
The skirt was broken.
The skirt is being replaced.
Reality has been restored. 👍

Watch the full video on YouTube!

The One That Got Away...ALMOST! A casual search turned obsessive quickly, but most listings I found lacked certificates of authenticity. Between that and suspicious pricing, I assumed most were recasts and abandoned the idea again.

While searching Xianyu, I did come across several faceup showcases for this sculpt, and honestly… they were nice. Uncomfortably nice. People are absurdly talented. It immediately put me into that familiar collector spiral of debating whether I should wipe the current faceup and attempt something inspired by what I saw, or leave it alone and respect the work that’s already there.

For now, I’m keeping the faceup as-is. I need more practice before attempting anything that detailed, and I’d rather not learn my lessons on a head I waited years to own.

Gorgeous frosty-looking Phoenix makeup I saw on Xianyu!

The Mercari Miracle

Eventually, a legitimate Phoenix head appeared on Mercari with a proper CoA. Initially priced around $300, it sat long enough for me to watch, hesitate, and overthink.

Honestly, I even considered going back to negotiate with the seller. But when I checked again, the listing had completely disappeared. I’m not sure if it sold, if the seller took it down temporarily, or if Mercari simply decided to gaslight me, but at that point I assumed my chance was gone.

Months later, the listing reappeared with the price dropped to about $150. That time, I didn’t hesitate. I immediately bought it. This was one of those rare collector moments where patience accidentally worked.

Of Course There Was a Coupon

Naturally, Mercari released a 10% off toys coupon a few days after my purchase. I could have saved more, but apparently the universe needed me to experience mild annoyance as a character-building exercise.

Video Discussion: Head-Only Unboxings & Format Thoughts

On a side note, I’ve noticed that head-only unboxing videos tend to perform… poorly. Like “algorithm politely pretends they never happened” poorly. Because of that, I’ve been debating whether these should just become shorts instead of full videos.

Personally, I’m not a fan of the vertical format. Dolls are opened horizontally, reality is horizontal, and yet I’m supposed to fit everything into a tall, narrow rectangle like I’m filming through a mail slot. It’s especially painful with bodies or anything even remotely large.

So I’m curious what you prefer. Full videos, shorts, or some cursed hybrid format I haven’t emotionally processed yet.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I’m genuinely happy to finally have the Phoenix head in my collection. This is one of those sculpts that lived rent-free in my brain for years, quietly resurfacing just often enough to be annoying. Owning it now feels less like a victory and more like closing an old mental tab I never fully shut down.

At some point, I’ll be posting head try-on photos with the bodies I already have, once I decide which ones deserve the emotional labor. Those will likely end up on Dollfinder.org, assuming the project still exists by then and I don’t suddenly decide to scrap the entire thing out of spite or exhaustion. The motivation comes and goes.

For now, Phoenix has a place here, certificate intact, no regrets… mostly. And that’s about as good as it gets in this hobby.

Watch the full video on YouTube!

Instant Doll Body Review: Cheap Resin Doll in Tan Skin That Doesn’t Suck?

https://www.dedeko.me/blog/instant-doll-body-review-cheap-resin-doll-in-tan-skin-that-doesnt-suck

https://www.dedeko.me/blog/instant-doll-body-review-cheap-resin-doll-in-tan-skin-that-doesnt-suck#comments

box opening

Instant Doll

video

Sometimes, a doll shows up in your life that completely surprises you. Not terrible. Not exactly painless either.

Fun fact: the exchange rate was better when I bought it, so my poor U.S. dollar was slightly more effective back then. If you enjoy bargains and emotional compromise, welcome home.

🦵 Joint Construction: A Puzzle With Opinions

Naturally, I started pulling the body apart to see what was actually chromed and what was not.

Some joints are fully chromed. Some are cast in black resin. Some are just normal resin living their best lives. The inner thigh joints are especially strange, with black resin surrounding a non-chromed ball joint. It feels like several design decisions were made in different rooms.

The knee and elbow caps appear to be separate pieces, possibly glued on, and the knee joints do not line up perfectly. This may be due to the chroming process adding thickness where it was not originally planned. Or it may be due to chaos. A respectful little reminder of what I could have had.

Inside the hole, you can see aluminum wire, similar to the internal structure of other Ringdoll bodies like the Baldwin doll. This confirms that yes, I probably should try to get the tail. No, I probably will not.

Update: I DID! Apparently, Ringdoll sells the tail separately! I actually have a history with this company; I ordered from them back in 2016 and IOS was pleasant to deal with, sending my order promptly and without issue. Because of that positive experience, I didn't think twice about ordering again. I assumed I was in good hands.

If you have an open order with them, I hope my timeline helps you decide your next steps.

The Timeline: From Promise to Silence

My journey began on July 30, 2025, when I placed an order for an IOS Class50 body. I had also ordered a Kappa head from their Dopple Maiden line, which arrived without issue. Since they are essentially the same team, I expected the same level of service for the body.

Things initially seemed on track. On October 31, 2025, the IOS admin confirmed on the Q&A board that my package would ship via EMS Premium on "next Monday," which was November 4, 2025. However, that date came and went with no tracking number.

After waiting for a response that never came, I began a long series of follow-ups:

November 8, 2025: I posted on the Q&A board asking why they had not replied to my questions about shipping. I pointed out that the promised ship date had passed with no tracking number provided.

December 14, 2025: I sent a direct email asking for a shipping update and confirming customs declaration details. No response.

December 21, 2025: I posted the same content from my email to their public Q&A board, hoping for more visibility. No response.

December 23, 2025: After receiving no response on the Q&A board, I emailed them directly once again. Still no response.

For months, I was met with absolute radio silence across every platform they own.

Community Insights and the PayPal Dispute

On December 20, 2025, I reached out to the community on the Den of Angels forum to ask if anyone else was having similar issues with IOS. Many users responded and suggested that I open a PayPal dispute immediately since I was nearing the 180 day limit. I honestly had completely forgotten about the PayPal window because I have not had trouble with a company in such a long time.

During these discussions, it became clear that I was not the only one. Other collectors mentioned that these issues with IOS stretched back into 2024. Individuals reported having to resort to PayPal disputes just to receive their dolls after promised shipping dates had long since passed. This suggested a recurring pattern of behavior rather than a one time delay.

Realizing I was approaching the 180 day protection limit, I finally filed a PayPal dispute. This is a crucial reminder for all collectors: you only have 180 days from the purchase date to protect your money.

As of 9:00 AM yesterday (01/17/2026), I was officially refunded my full purchase amount. IOS never responded to the PayPal dispute. They also remained completely silent on their own Q&A board and via email throughout the entire dispute process. If you are in a similar boat, I suggest opening a dispute while you still can.

Update: January 18, 2026. The "Hacked" Excuse

The situation took a strange turn today. After the PayPal dispute closed in my favor and the payment was reversed, I suddenly received an email from IOS with a tracking number.

I immediately emailed them back to tell them to cancel the shipment. I explained that I had already received a refund via the dispute process and they should not send the item. Their response was:

"Our company email was hacked, which caused a security issue. We sincerely apologize for the disappointment this may have caused."

While a hack is a serious issue, I find this explanation difficult to fully accept. Even if their email was compromised, I had posted several times on their Q&A board with the same messages. They could have checked and responded to the board at any time, but they did not.

Even if the hacked email was tied directly to their Q&A board access, a professional business should have secondary login methods or multi-factor authentication in place for extra security. These are standard protocols that would have allowed them to maintain communication with their customers despite a compromised account.

Furthermore, the "hacked" excuse raises serious concerns about data security. If their systems were compromised, it is unclear how much customer information was stolen, if any. As a customer, it is worrying to think that personal information like names, addresses, and order histories could be at risk. A company should be transparent about the scope of a breach, but IOS has provided no such clarity.

My Final Thoughts

As for the tracking number they provided, it does not work yet. It is not showing up in my UPS app, unlike my previous Kappa head order, so I assume they managed to cancel the shipment. I am not sure if they fully understood that the money was already returned to me when they mentioned shipping it in that last email, which is why I told them not to ship the doll.

IOS really dropped the ball on communication. If a company email is hacked and they cannot respond, they owe it to their customers to post an announcement on their website, a message on the Q&A board, or a mass update via a secure channel. Leaving customers in the dark for months is not how you handle a security crisis.

I have always wanted the Raul head, but this experience has made me very wary. Given the history of issues reaching back to 2024 (or earlier), I am not sure I can trust them with my money in the future.

Take this situation with a grain of salt, but please keep a very close eye on your PayPal windows when dealing with IOS right now.

Update: January 20, 2026. The Package Arrives Against My Wishes

I woke up this morning to a very frustrating development. Despite my explicit request on January 18th for IOS to cancel the shipment, they proceeded to send the doll anyway. The package has already cleared customs in my country, and I have been notified that a tariff fee is now due before the item can be delivered.

This creates a very difficult dilemma. I have already received my full refund through the PayPal dispute process, and I made it clear to IOS that I did not want the doll once the communication had been broken for so long. However, they ignored my instructions and said they would ship the doll anyway. They have not stated that this is a gift.

I sent a polite follow-up email this morning explaining that I do not want to accept the package for a transaction that has already been refunded. I am currently waiting for a reply, which I hope to receive this evening.

Since I will not be home to accept the delivery, the package will likely be held by the courier because the customs fees have not been paid. This buys me a little bit of time to hear back from the company.

My plan is simple:

If IOS responds and says I can keep the doll as a gift: I will pay the tariff fee and pick up the package.

If they demand payment for the doll: I will officially refuse the delivery. This will trigger a "Return to Sender" process so the doll goes back to them at no cost to me.

I will post another update as soon as I hear back from them or decide to send the package back. It is a very strange situation to be in, but I am standing firm on the fact that I should not be recharged for an item I tried to warn them not to send before it was even shipped.

Blog Update: Clarification and Resolution

On January 23, I finally received a reply from IOS, albeit a bit late. In their message, they offered to cover the tariff I had previously mentioned and stated that I should receive the doll, as it would otherwise be destroyed.

I replied to clarify that I had already paid the tariff and received the doll. I also asked them to confirm their intentions going forward. Specifically, I wanted to know whether the doll was being provided as a gift of goodwill or if they intended to attempt to charge me for it again. I made it clear that if the latter was the case, I would be more than willing to return the doll, provided a prepaid return shipping label was supplied, as I had not opened it yet.

I received a final reply on January 24th to bring a close to the issue:

I’m glad to hear that you received the package safely. As you understood, this doll is indeed a gift offered in goodwill. Thank you very much for accepting it.

We will improve our production and shipping systems going forward.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused.

Wishing you a happy weekend, and thank you again.

IOS admin.

With that clarification, the issue is now fully resolved. While the process was messy and communication was delayed, I do appreciate IOS taking responsibility and making an effort to set things right in the end. I can finally move forward and you can look forward to the box opening video soon.

Fantasy Shape Artist Doll Bust Unboxing (AKA: Shipping Tried to Kill Me)

https://www.dedeko.me/blog/fantasy-shape-artist-doll-bust-unboxing-aka-shipping-tried-to-kill-me

https://www.dedeko.me/blog/fantasy-shape-artist-doll-bust-unboxing-aka-shipping-tried-to-kill-me#comments

bjd

box opening

Fantasy Shape

video

Today’s victim...feature...is a massive artist doll bust stand by Fantasy Shape (also known as Shapeshifting Doll, depending on which translation app is having a day). I filed the memory away, like a freshly dug grave I’d eventually need to return to.

🦊 The Obsession: Why You Should Never Trust a Fox

But the head wouldn't die. It haunted my waking moments like a poorly-exorcised spirit.

The Features of My Torment: Four eyes (because two are for basic mortals), sharply molded, elf-like ears, and, the cherry on this unsettling cake, detachable fox ears.

The Eyelash Problem: At first, I hated the molded eyelashes. They were a bizarre, theatrical choice. Then, like Stockholm Syndrome, I fell in love. They were unique. A true anomaly in the otherwise dull, fleshy landscape of the BJD world.

This meant I had to find it. I put on my amateur necromancer hat and began to SCOUR the digital underworld. I translated my fevered ravings into Chinese, consulted the digital oracle known as Den of Angels, and waded into the murky depths of Google Image Search, Xianyu (China's second-hand market, a truly cursed place), and Baidu (a similarly cursed Chinese search engine).

🧐 The Conspiracy: Too Many Cooks, Not Enough Souls

A special thanks to "poppyfleaur_bjd" for contacting the owner of this doll and providing information!

What I unearthed was a swirling vortex of conflicting information and confusing aliases that would make a spy thriller author blush.

Alias Found: "Cursed Fox (咒狐)"
Source: Consistent across all platforms
Translation/Role: The undisputed Sculpt Name

Alias Found: RaviraDoll
Source: An Instagram source
Translation/Role: The first, seemingly false, Artist Name

Alias Found: Chinese TikTok
Account Source: Related to the above name
Translation/Role: An un-contactable source of BJD content

The Casting Cult Emerges

The trail quickly went cold and then mutated. Every translation tool and context gave a slightly different result, like a series of fragmented prophecies:

(Mr.) Cat-headed Oriole

Teacher Owl

Mr. Cat-headed Warbler (or Wren)

But wait, the ritual begins to stabilize! As I cross-referenced the mangled translations, a pattern emerged! A hint of phonetic consistency in the linguistic chaos.

The name Mao Tou Ying (猫头莺) is likely the key. Even when the full translation failed, the individual parts sometimes stuck:

A Weibo translation yielded "Maitao Warbler," which is phonetically consistent with MAO TOU Ying.

Another translation gave "Yingying," which clearly links back to the final sound, YING.

This suggests that Teacher Owl/Cat-headed Oriole is the true, maddeningly translated identity. The pieces fit! The name is a cursed puzzle, but the core sculpt is 100% Cursed Fox (咒狐), though some cursed algorithm once spat out the translation "Bodhisattva." A four-eyed fox demon is a Bodhisattva. It’s now mine, and I fully expect it to whisper dark secrets to me in the dead of night.

I also learned that another group supposedly cast these heads, but I've learned my lesson about chasing spectral information. I did find someone on Xianyu advertising their resin 3D printing services, and they chose the Cursed Fox as their example. Unfortunately, the result was a tragically terrible print. Naturally, the universe decided I was too happy. I woke up to a notification from my Xianyu agent: the seller of the SD Cursed Fox head had suddenly canceled the transaction. So, the SD head that stole my soul has now stolen my money and vanished. Ugh. These heads are more mythical than actual unicorns.
